Caitlin Lock is a self taught photographer from the south coast of the UK. Working predominantly in colour, she is a commercial photographer by trade and produces documentary-style work for personal projects, often using film. All the Fun of the Boot Fair is her first book.
Boot fairs are their own economic microclimate. Prices set on a whim, deals all done in cash; once prized possessions jettisoned for pennies. For some it's about making money, others it's about community and a bargain to boot.
Running machines next to jelly beans, all manner of crockery and pottery placed with broken Barbies and Grandad's old chair.
6am starts, tea in polystyrene cups, the smell of onions frying as the cars pitch up.
Excitement as the punters arrive. Weather dependent. Home by 2pm.
