'These pictures were taken on my fifth trip to Chernobyl in 2016 / 2017, with a Hasselblad XPan camera and Ilford Delta 3200 film. High ISO film is especially sensitive to radiation, which is why there is some ghosting in a few of the photographs.
It is not too difficult to get into the 30 kilometre Exclusion Zone surrounding the Chernobyl disaster site. You have to contact one of the companies that organise these trips, pay for a guide, and pay for a visa to get in. It's notpossible to go in without a guide. We were equipped with radiation detectors during the whole stay. The exclusion zone is mostly safe, but there are a couple of places it is still too dangerous to visit due to high radiation levels. For instance, the cellar at the hospital where the fire fighters' uniforms are gathered - you still get avery high radiation reading through three concrete floors above where the uniforms are kept.'
